About Dr. negar shekarabi

HELPING YOUR WORKPLACE BECOME HEALTHIER PLACE TO WORK.

I’m a clinical psychologist, speaker, and consultant focused on helping organizations understand the emotional impact of the work they ask people to do—and how to build cultures where people can sustain meaningful careers without sacrificing their wellbeing.

My work sits at the intersection of psychology, workplace wellbeing, and organizational culture. I partner with universities, healthcare systems, professional organizations, and leadership teams to address issues like burnout, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and emotional labor in high-responsibility professions.

Through keynote talks, workshops, and consulting, I translate psychological research into practical strategies that help organizations support the people doing the work.

The Question That Drives My Work

Early in my career as a psychologist, I worked closely with individuals navigating trauma, crisis, and major life stressors.

Over time, I noticed a pattern.

Many of the people I was supporting weren’t struggling only because of personal challenges—they were struggling because of the environments they were working in.

They were physicians caring for critically ill patients.
Student affairs professionals supporting students in crisis.
Legal professionals handling traumatic cases.
Educators navigating increasingly complex systems.

These were people deeply committed to helping others.

But the systems around them were rarely designed to sustain the humans doing the helping.

That realization shaped the focus of my work today.

What I Do

I help organizations understand and address the psychological demands of mission-driven work.

My speaking and consulting focuses on topics such as:

  • Workplace wellbeing and sustainable leadership

  • Burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma

  • Trauma-informed workplaces and cultures of care

  • Boundaries and emotional resilience in helping professions

  • Supporting professionals navigating crisis and high-stakes environments

In addition to my consulting work, I lead initiatives focused on employee mental health and workplace wellbeing within the University of California, Irvine system.

My Approach

My work combines clinical psychology, systems thinking, and practical tools.

Because burnout isn’t simply an individual resilience problem—it’s often a signal about the way work itself is structured.

I help organizations move beyond surface-level wellness initiatives toward sustainable systems that support the people doing the work..
